The Story

Chapters + Verses is a music initiative created by Minister Leon C. Lewis to develop and share new choir-centered gospel music for Sunday worship.

Born from the belief that the Church should continue creating music for the Church, the project gives choirs fresh songs rooted in Scripture, congregational participation, and the living tradition of gospel music. It began at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, and “One Word” is the first doorway in.

The Word

“The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.”

Matthew 8:5–8 · KJV

One Word is drawn from the faith of the centurion, who believed that a single word from Jesus was enough. The song is a prayer of that same trust: speak the word only.
